Band Students - Nelson Mandela Band Clinic

Students participating in Peter Lougheed School’s Grade 7 & 8 bands will have the opportunity to continue developing musical skills on their chosen instrument. Students from Nelson Mandela High School are volunteering to provide support and lessons on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Peter Lougheed School. Students who are participating will need to bring a lunch and return the completed confirmation of attendance to Mr. Harder no later than Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

Grade 7 Students - Calgary Public Library

The grade 7 classes will all have the chance to visit the Calgary Public Library this month. This coming week, on October 10, homerooms 7-5 and 7-6 will be walking to the public
library during their morning blocks.

Physical Education

For all parents, can you please have your children bring or wear appropriate footwear to school each day to participate in Physical Education class. Wearing crocs or other types of sandals is not safe to participate in due to the lack of ankle support and potential for spraining or breaking an ankle. We will be asking students that wear these types of shoes to sit out of pe activities for safety. As the weather also starts to get colder we request that our students dress for the weather each day and are prepared to be outside with sweaters, jackets, hats, gloves/mitts and appropriate footwear.

Athletics

Our girls soccer team played their second game at Sir Wilfrid Laurier School. The girls played really great defence and were able to score a late goal that was perfectly bent in to the net in a 1-1 tie. The girls then played at home on Wednesday and the girls scored 8 goals in an 8-1 victory. Great job girls on maintaining an undefeated season. Our boys soccer team had their third game at Sir Wilfrid Laurier school. The boys played to a 3-2 victory in a very back and forth game. The boys also played at home on Thursday against a very strong Clarence Sansom team in a 4-0 loss. Both teams have a bye next week and will run practices after school before finishing their season the following week.

Our senior girls team played their first two games of the season last week and had a very tough opponent in Crossing Park for their first game and learned a lot in a loss and then in their second game showed great ball control and strong shooting in a win against Terry Fox. Our basketball teams continued their season of play this week with our junior players playing on the road on Monday. The boys started out super strong against Clarence Sansom but couldn’t hold on for the victory and in the second game had a super close back and forth tilt with Annie Gale where the boys came up just short in the end. The boys have greatly improved in their first four games. Our junior girls played on Tuesday at Prairie Sky School and came out strong in a win versus the home school and in the second one played a tough game against Ted Harrison in a loss. Great job girls and keep up your strong play! Our senior boys traveled to Annie Gale and were able to win both of their games by close to 20 points. Great job on continuing your perfect season. Our senior girls played Thursday at Ted Harrison School and were able to win the first game handily and in the second game had a super close one versus Ted Harrison but in the end couldn’t pull out the vitory.. Next week we are hosting home games on both Tuesday and Thursday so come out and cheer on our girls teams. Also our senior teams will be playing in the Maverick’s Madness Basketball Tournament which goes Thursday & Saturday for the boys and Friday & Saturday for the girls. Good luck to the teams in the tournament.
