Black History Month
During the month of February, Calgary Board of Education students and staff will celebrate and explore the many contributions of Black Canadians, peoples, and communities worldwide. Black History Month is an opportunity for schools to amplify and spotlight the innovative, courageous, and inspiring voices, stories, and contributions of Black Canadians and communities.
Happy Lunar New Year
Exciting happenings unfolded during our Connect Day on Friday. Collaboratively, Ms. Gupta's Grade 8 students and Ms. Paauw's Grade 7 students united to craft a dragon, symbolizing the onset of the new Year of the Dragon. Concurrently, Ms. Copping and Ms. Carter's Grade 6 classes engaged in the delightful task of crafting paper lanterns. Many students were animatedly discussing their Chinese zodiac signs, adding a vibrant cultural touch to the festivities.
Athletics
Our volleyball teams played their second league game this week against Gordon Higgins. Our boys started out very strong on Monday winning both sets in senior and juniors and our girls played hard in losses in seniors and the juniors split. Our junior girls also went to their tournament at H.D. Cartwright school and had three games against some tough teams and came out with a valuable victory against the home school. They finish their tournament tonight.

Physical Education
Our grade 8's will be going on their ski field trip on Monday February 12 and the 7's on Tuesday Feb. 13. If your child is going on this field trip please check the weather and ensure your kids are properly dressed for this trip with warm clothing and extra clothing in case they get wet. Students should also have warm gloves and a second pair in case the first pair gets wet is recommended. Also a reminder for parents to please pay for the field trip on MyCBE if your child attended or is attending.
A reminder that we will be running outdoor modules all winter long and students in these modules need to come to class prepared with sweaters, warm pants, winter jackets, mittens/gloves, hats or hoods, warm socks and snow pants and boots are beneficial but are not mandatory. Lots of students are coming to school unprepared and are having trouble participating in their modules because of this.
Parents / Guardians Webinar Series
The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join us in an online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions are hosted in partnership with experts from Alberta Health Services and will explore topics such as vaping, brain development, mental health, and sexual health. Click here to learn more: Child and Youth Well-Being: A Webinar Series for Parents and Guardians
CBE educators believe that parents and guardians can inspire their kids to make healthy lifestyle choices and increase protective factors – in order to do so, they need the right tools and information. Well-being is a precondition for learning. As our understanding of student well-being continues to evolve, it is important for those that support children and youth to stay up to date on the same information so everyone can support student success. The intention of the series is to advance student well-being by raising family and caregiver’s understanding of a variety of health-related topics. Thank you for your time and consideration to join us.

Parking
The school continues to receive calls from the community about the parking and the general pick up and drop off by parents. This includes, but not limited to: ·
- Parking too close to corners and creating blind spots.
- Obstructing garages – even if it is only for a few minutes.
- Parking in the bus zone
- Concerns over students not crossing at the crosswalk.
- Students crossing in between vehicles.
- Stopping in the middle of the road instead of pulling over to the side to pick up and drop off students.
- All parking infractions are being directed to the City of Calgary Bylaw department.
