Good afternoon PLS families,

Dear Peter Lougheed School parents/guardians, students, and staff,

I am pleased to announce Scott Hassett as the new Assistant Principal at Peter Lougheed School.  Assistant Principal Hassett is looking forward to officially joining the community in the fall. Greetings from Assistant Principal Hassett are included below. Please join me in welcoming Assistant Principal Hassett to the incredible Peter Lougheed School Community!

Hello Peter Lougheed Families,

My name is Scott Hassett, and I’m very excited to be joining the Peter Lougheed community as an Assistant Principal starting in the Fall of 2026.

I have taught with the CBE for 20 years, including spending the last 4 years as an Assistant Principal at Glendale School in the SE.  Prior to my current position I gained valuable experience working at the Middle School level, as I spent time as a Grade 8 and Math Learning Leader at both Riverside and Twelve Mile Coulee schools.

Throughout my career I’ve had multiple opportunities to work and learn alongside amazing and caring educators who have inspired in me a passion for authentic, interdisciplinary learning that is worthy of the time and attention of the children I am responsible for.  I believe every child comes with stories and gifts that matter, and that teaching and learning is the cultivation of spaces of wonder, challenge, and curiosity.

Most of all, I believe in the power in creating a community that works collaboratively to support each other in the service of children.  My door is always open, my time always available, and my attention always focused on listening to, and working with, parents, caregivers, community members and most of all children.

I’m looking forward to meeting the Peter Lougheed community in the Fall and welcome anyone with any questions or queries to reach out via email at sjhassett@cbe.ab.ca.  Once next year’s school begins, I’ll be around and visible as I work to connect with as many families as possible.

Hoping everyone has a great Summer, looking forward to working together come September.

Scott Hassett

(Soon to be) Assistant Principal

Peter Lougheed School

Next week is our last week of classes with students – congratulations to our Grade 9s and all the best to students moving on to new settings.    Thank you for sharing them with us!

Activity/Sports Day

Our last day with students is Friday, June 26.  Our PE team has planned an amazing  Activity/Sports Day which will include  an opportunity for students to purchase items from Food Trucks.  We will be dismissing at our normal Friday dismissal time of 1:08pm.  There is a water zone – if your child plans to participate in this optional activity, please consider sending them with a change of clothes.   A reminder that water guns and water bead guns are against CBE administrative regulations – please do not send these with students.

Report Cards Available for Viewing

CBE no longer prints report cards for students.  They are available via parent/guardian PowerSchool Accounts beginning on June 25.

Locker Cleanout

Students will be cleaning out their lockers on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.   Please consider sending an additional reusable bag with your child(ren) to help them bring their belongings home.

Important yearbook information

If you ordered a yearbook for this school year, your student will receive it by the end of September or early October 2026. This is because the yearbook is printed and shipped out over the summer break. If your child is in grade 9 OR if your child is moving schools, they will have to return to Peter Lougheed School in the fall to pick up their yearbook. The school is not responsible for sending yearbooks out to students who have left the school.
