Sept. 23-27th

All Week – Treat 7 Week, CBE Truth and Reconciliation Week

September 26:  Orange Shirt Day, Meet the Teacher 5pm-7pm & Scholastic Book Fair

September 27:  Non-Instructional Day (No Classes)

September 30:   National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (No Classes)

From Administration:

Please remember when dropping off or picking up your children to choose safety over convenience. We have noticed many parents stopping their vehicles in the middle of the road and dropping off students or beckoning their children to step into traffic to get into their vehicles. There has been more than one narrow escape with a student nearly getting hit by a car when jaywalking to meet their parents. Illegal U-turns and parking in the bus zone endanger your child and others. Please take that bit of extra time and pick a meeting spot that is in a safe area.

Meet the Teacher

Meet the teacher is scheduled from 5pm-7pm on Thursday, September 26.  We will meet in the main gym at 5:15pm to Acknowledge the Land, feature our music program and to introduce our PE team, Learning Leaders and Administration.   Following the brief assembly, students and their families will visit learning spaces and meet classroom teachers.   Student work will be on display so PLS families can see what their learners have been up to in these first few weeks.

Please note that there is no school for students on Friday, September 27, 2024 for a Professional Learning day for teachers.  Peter Lougheed School is also closed on Monday, September 30, 2024 for the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.

Terry Fox Run

A huge thank you to all our students that brought in donations for the Terry Fox run and participated in the run last Friday.  The school raised close to $1200 that will go to research to help cure cancer. We are so proud of all the efforts of Peter Lougheed School to keep the legacy of Terry Fox going.

Robotics Club

Our robotics club is looking for community sponsors! We have a very active group of students who compete in several competitions each year throughout the CBE. In robotics club, students design, build, and program a robot to complete various tasks to score points against opposing teams. We are looking to expand our team and to increase opportunities for our students with an additional robot. If you are interested in supporting our team this year, please contact Drew McDowell (dtmcdowell@cbe.ab.ca). Thanks!

Athletics

A huge congratulations to our cross-country running team on all of their success at their second race at West Confed park. One of our grade 9 girls finished in the top 35 which was great to see, and our other runners improved from their first race. Their last meet will be this upcoming Monday so good luck to them.

Our boy's soccer team played an exhibition game at home on Wednesday after school versus Clarence Sansom and they came out to a strong 2-0 lead.  Sansom came back to tie it but then the boys took the lead once again and won 3-2.  Congrats to them and good luck to both of our soccer teams as they start their regular season next week.

Some of our basketball teams will start their season next week with both of our girls hosting home games this week so come on out and cheer them on.

Athletic Schedule

Please ensure that if your child is planning to try out for an athletic team that they have turned in their athletic tryout purple form to the phys ed office.  If students still need this form, they can pick one up from the pe office in the gym.
