September 15 – 19

PLS Meet the Teacher Evening

Please save the date:  Thursday, September 25 (5pm-7pm).   These informal visits are a chance for students to tour their families through our school and introduce them to their teachers.    Student Progress Conferences for academic updates will be held in November.

Terry Fox Fundraising and Run

This week our Phys Ed team hosted events in recognition and support of Terry Fox.   Mr. Masson was duct-taped to a wall by students who made donations and there was an epic staff versus students dodgeball game.  We also gathered together in assemblies on Friday and ran/walked our regular route around the perimeter of the field.

Securing student items

Students are reminded to please ensure that their bikes and scooters are locked up.   We have bike racks both behind and in front of the school.

Physical Education:

A reminder to all parents to ensure students come with proper clothing so they can effectively participate in Physical Education class. Also, any students wearing crocs or slides/sandals/flip flops will not be allowed to participate in the activities as there are major safety concerns with these types of footwear. Please ensure your child has proper PE footwear & attire as we had some students showing up to PE class with crocs this week.

It is highly recommended that students bring their own water bottle to PE class. Please write your name on your bottle. Students wishing to go to water fountains during class will be asked to go during times where instructions are NOT being given.

Our goal for Physical Education this year is to enjoy and find success in PE class. To help students develop success, we outline these six expectations on how students can be successful this year:

  1. PARTICIPATE – to the best of their ability
  2. BE RESPECTFUL – use appropriate & safe language
  3. BE PREPARED – have proper footwear and attire for outdoor activities
  4. COMMUNICATE – talk to their teacher if they require support
  5. ARRIVE ON TIME – please don’t be late to class
  6. We had some issues this week with lates. Please make sure you talk to your child about the importance of arriving on time to class.
  7. HAVE FUN! - Smile, move & laugh!

Athletics:

This week, athletics are in full swing here at Peter Lougheed. Again, our fall sports include: ‘Cross-Country’, Soccer, & Basketball. Tryouts for soccer & basketball are all done! I want to give a huge THANK YOU to all our student athletes who tried out for soccer & basketball this week. Congratulations to all our athletes who made our teams! If you did not make the team, please continue to try and get involved with some athletic programs outside of our school so you can keep practicing those skills for next year!

If you child made one of our athletic teams, a reminder for parents to please check their PowerSchool accounts, so you are able to pay any outstanding athletics fees that are owing as these fees help us to take kids to tournaments, pay for referees and host wrap up parties to celebrate the athletes' accomplishments. A parent letter will be sent home by our coach’s this week with all the information listed.
