September 8-12th
Thank you PLS families!
We had a wonderful first week of school. It has been very exciting to meet all of our new students, and everyone had a terrific time in our Friday Spirit Assemblies.
Physical Education:
Hi Families! My name is Kyle Masson and I am the newly appointed Physical Education learning Leader & Athletic Director at Peter Lougheed School. Every week, I will send updates regarding our physical education program as well as our athletics here at school.
A reminder to all parents to ensure students are coming with proper clothing so they can participate in Physical Education class. Also, any students wearing crocs or slides/sandals/flip flops will not be allowed to participate in the activities as there are major safety concerns with these types of footwear. Please ensure your child has proper PE footwear beginning on Monday as we will be beginning our modules next week.
It is recommended that students bring their own water bottle to PE class. Please write your name on your bottle. Students wishing to go to water fountains during class will be asked to go during times where instructions are NOT being given.
Our goal for Physical Education this year is to enjoy and find success in PE class. To help students develop success, we outline these six expectations on how students can be successful this year:
- PARTICIPATE – to the best of their ability
- BE RESPECTFUL – use appropriate & safe language
- BE PREPARED – have proper footwear and attire for outdoor activities
- COMMUNICATE – talk to their teacher if they require support
- ARRIVE ON TIME – please don’t be late to class
- HAVE FUN! - Smile, move & laugh!
Athletics:
This year, athletics are starting right away at Peter Lougheed. Our fall sports include: ‘Cross-Country’, Soccer, & Basketball. For students who are wanting to try out for our sports, we require them to fill out an athletic tryout waiver form. Homeroom teachers should have distributed these to the students. If a student requires a form, they can come see any of the PE teachers to obtain one. Students can hand their forms in to any of the PE staff or their homeroom teachers. Please ensure ALL BOXES ARE CHECKED YES, even if your child doesn’t plan on trying out for that sport. Checking yes doesn’t mean they have to try out but rather, they are able to try out if they choose to do so.
Just a reminder for parents to please check their PowerSchool accounts if your child makes any one of our teams so you are able to pay any outstanding athletics fees that are owing as these fees help us to take kids to tournaments, pay for referees and host wrap up parties to celebrate the athletes' accomplishments.
Cross Country Running:
Cross Country has already begun here at PLS. Cross country is a walk on sport meaning there are no tryouts here. Any student in Grade 6-9 may be on the team. Please make sure athletes have proper clothing, footwear and a water bottle.
