Oct. 28th  - Nov. 1

From Administration:

Please remember when dropping off or picking up your children to choose safety over convenience. We have noticed many parents stopping their vehicles in the middle of the road and dropping off students or beckoning their children to step into traffic to get into their vehicles. There has been more than one narrow escape with a student nearly getting hit by a car when jaywalking to meet their parents. Illegal U-turns and parking in the bus zone endanger your child and others. Please take that bit of extra time and pick a meeting spot that is in a safe area.

Construction Update

The concrete for our steps is being poured and hopefully we will have access to our bus doors in early November. You may notice that there are new shrubs, trees, and grass going in around the front of the school. Our landscapers have assured us this is a great time of year to put down new sod. As the winter approaches the new grass will simply go dormant until the spring. Please remind your children to not walk on any of the new grass.

Halloween & Costumes

On October 31st we ask that students who wish to come to school in Halloween costumes please adhere to a few requirements. Please come to school wearing appropriate costumes with no masks or excessive blood/gore. There should be no weapons or other props.

Diwali

Peter Lougheed School will be recognizing Diwali throughout the week, but specifically on November 1st. There will be some specific activities related to Diwali.

Fees in PowerSchool

Families, please ensure you are checking PowerSchool regularly for fees.   New fees are added throughout the year.  You may also have historical fees from previous school years.

Athletics

Our boys soccer team played in the finals on Wednesday versus Ted Harrison.  The boys started the game off strong but eventually could not hold off Ted Harrisons attacks.  Peter Lougheed is super proud of all of our boys on their second place finish this year in soccer.

This week in basketball our junior girls started the week off with two close matchups in losses.  Our junior boys played a super tight game versus Terry Fox in their building winning by 1 point and then followed it up with a great come from behind win against Crossing Park that was super exciting.  Our senior girls played at home and had an amazing game against Terry Fox in the girls first win of the season where all of the girls played amazing.  Finally our senior boys capped off the week with another win against Ted Harrison to keep their perfect season alive.  The boys also were champions of the North West Classic last week and we have the winning plaque in our trophy case on display.

Just a reminder of parents of both our soccer teams and basketball teams that we need you to pay your team fees as we need to pay our referees for the season and pay for the tournaments we were in.  If you are having trouble paying your fees on Powerschool please contact the office and they can help you out.

Athletic Schedule

Please ensure that if your child is planning to try out for an athletic team that they have turned in their athletic tryout purple form to the phys ed office.  If students still need this form, they can pick one up from the pe office in the gym.

Physical Education

Just a reminder to all parents to ensure students are coming with proper clothing so they can participate in Physical Education class.  The weather is getting colder in the mornings so we need to have students come prepared to be outside.  Also, any students wearing crocs or sandals/flip flops will not be allowed to participate in the activities as there are major safety concerns with these types of footwear.
