May 4-8

You’re invited to... The Story of Us

mayday

We are excited to welcome our Peter Lougheed families
to The Story of Us, our school‑wide celebration of
identity, culture, and belonging on May 14, 2026.

Students will be sharing their belonging projects, and
we’ll also be joined by local Northeast Calgary
businesses and cultural artisans who help make our
community so vibrant.

This is a free event, but families will need to reserve
free tickets on Eventbrite to help us plan for space
and safety.

We can’t wait to celebrate the many stories that make up who we are as a community.

Art – Friday, May 8th

monsters and heroes

The Monsters and Heroes Art Show returns for its third year on May 8th at The New Gallery (208 Centre St S, Calgary, AB T2G 2B6), showcasing a collaboration between students across Calgary. This exhibition brings together approximately 400 students (with 28 students from Peter Lougheed School) and from 12 CBE schools, along with participant artists from the Alberta University of the Arts, along with practicing artists and professors to create a multi-stage artistic journey that highlights creativity, imagination, and growth. Beginning with Grade 4 students who design original “Monsters” and “Heroes,” the artwork evolves through Jr. High and High School classrooms before being transformed by university artists into final pieces. Families are warmly invited to attend the opening night from 6–9 PM and experience this powerful celebration of student voice, collaboration, and artistic development.

PLS Spring Concert: It’s that time of the year! Band students are hard at work preparing for their spring concert, which will be held on Thursday June 4th, at 6:30pm. We will feature performances from Grade 7/Grade 8/Grade 9 bands, small groups, solo performances, as well as from our very first Jazz Band! This is an important culmination of all the hard work students have been putting in this year, so all students are expected to be in attendance and performing!

Grade 5-2/5-3: Your student may bring home a ukulele that they have borrowed from the music room. Please ensure that your student returns the ukulele on the next school day in the morning. Students who continually forget to bring their ukulele back will not be allowed to take it home again.

Jazz Band: Our first jazz band rehearsal will be at lunch on Monday, May 4th. Students in jazz band may occasionally be required to attend rehearsals Friday mornings before school as needed.

Grade 8 Band: We will have after-school rehearsal this week Thursday, May 7th from 3:45-4:45. Again, attendance at these rehearsals is mandatory without an email from a parent/guardian.

Grade 7 Band: There are NO after-school rehearsals this week.
