Athletics:

Thermopylae practices have been running for the last week and will continue next week. The Thermopylae OCR is a large-scale fitness challenge, which is meant to be fun and foster an interest in personal fitness. This event is a 5 km run with approximately 20 obstacles/fitness stations set up along the way. The course for the Thermopylae race has been approved by CBE offsite activities and abides by all regulations. Thermopylae is set up as a “timed race”, but is more about being able to complete this fitness challenge and trying to meet personal fitness goals. The race will take place June 4th from 4:00-6:00pm at Valley Creek School. All students are welcome to participate in the race and any students still wanting to join can see Mr. Choi and Mr. Masson for more information. Practices are in the mornings before school starts.

Our grade 7 badminton team played in their divisional tournament this week on Wednesday where our team played phenomenal in their games. Our boys doubles teams finished first, second and third place, we won girls doubles and our singles and mixed doubles teams played great as well. Our grade 7 team finished first and added a third banner for Peter Lougheed this year joining the senior boys basketball and grade 6 badminton teams to win this year. We are super proud of all of our athletes this year. Go Thunder Go!!!!

Track and field tryouts will be happening next week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday after school with the meet being held at Foothills Athletic Park on June 11th from 8:30am-4:00 pm.  Any students interested in trying out for the team should follow the schedule and come out for the tryouts being held.  Students that make the team are responsible for getting to and from the event but can carpool or take public transit to get there if they would like.

Physical Education

A reminder for all of our students to be wearing appropriate clothing for Physical Education class and appropriate footwear. We have a lot of students coming to school wearing crocs footwear and flip flops which are not suitable shoes to be participating in sports and there is potential for one of these students to sprain or break their ankles as they offer no support and very little grip. If student’s are wearing these shoes to school please have them bring an additional pair of running shoes to change into at school.

Grade 5 Field Trip – OH Ranch

Grade 8 Field Trip – Calgary Zoo

The grade 8 team is excited to be taking our students on a field trip to the zoo. Field trip fees have been added to MyCBE accounts, so please ensure that payment and forms are completed ASAP. We still need volunteers to ensure the trips can take place. Please email your child’s teacher if you are available to volunteer and have completed the CBE volunteer procedure.

Dates of field trip:

8-3 and 8-4 – Tuesday, June 4th

8-5 and 8-6 – Wednesday, June 5th

Please ensure that students come prepared for the weather on the date of the field trip (appropriate clothing, footwear, sunscreen) and that they have a non-microwaveable lunch or money to purchase food from the zoo cafeteria. Please note, we will not be allowing students to visit the gift shops, so please do not send money for this purpose.
