Physical Education
With warmer weather coming back we are noticing students wearing shoes that are not suitable for participating in pe activities. These shoes include sandals, crocs, flip flops and slides. We are okay with students wearing these shoes around the building but when it is time for physical education class we ask that these students change into a pair of running shoes that they are also bringing to school with them. There is a great safety concern of students breaking bones in their feet or ankles with improper shoes participating in our activities. Students wearing the incorrect footwear will be asked to sit out of activities until they fix the issues and parents will be notified of the issue.
This past week we started our track and field module where students competed in running, jumping and throwing events that included 100m sprint, 60m hurdles, 300m dash, 1200m run, relay, discus, shot put and high jump. We will be carrying on with these events over the next two weeks and add in long jump and 600m. This module will lead into our track and field team which will compete on June 2nd at Foothills Athletic Park.

Community Responsibility
We ask that when our students are in our community for Physical Education or their lunch hour that they are respectful of both personal property and shared green spaces such as the pond. We have had reports from community members about students throwing items into the pond, disturbing nesting birds and trespassing on private property. Please remind your child(ren) of expectations when in the community for learning or lunch breaks.
Grade 5 Field Trips – Calgary Stampede Sam Centre
Grade 5 classes will be going downtown to the new Calgary Stampede Sam Centre to participate in their Tales, Trails, and Traces program. We will learn about the Calgary Stampede, ranching in Alberta, and Stampede champions past, present and future who have helped shape our community.
