Last week of School
As we head in to our last week of school for 23/24 school year we want to remind PLS families that learning is still happening at school. Please remind your students that there are ABSOLUTELY NO Water guns, silly string, confetti poppers, noise makers or other items of a similar nature allowed on school property. These items will be confiscated.
Last Day of School
Students are dismissed on Thursday June 27th at 12:26PM. The early dismissal day is throughout the CBE and schools follow the Bussing transportation timelines they typically use on Fridays. There is no school for students on June 28th, but the office will be open until 2PM.
Lost & Found
The Lost & Found bins are VERY FULL. As we get closer to the end of the year, we would like for these items to be returned to their rightful owners. Please remind your children to check the Lost & Found daily to retrieve lost items. We will start to display them in the hallways in the last week of school. Anything left on Thursday June 27 will be bagged up and taken to donation.
Report Cards
Report Cards will be viewable online on Wednesday June 26. It is important to note that schools no longer print report cards and parents can see them through your myCBE account.
Grade 9 Bowling Trip – June 24th
On Monday, Grade 9 students will be going bowling as an end of year celebration. The cost is $20/student and that includes transportation, an hour of bowling, 2 slices of pizza and a drink. Students are also welcome to bring extra spending money for arcades, extra snacks, etc.
Sports Day:
On Wednesday June 26th we will be having a farewell assembly and sports day for all our students at Peter Lougheed. Grade 5 & 6 students will participate in the morning and grade 7, 8 & 9 students in the afternoon. There will be food trucks on site for students to purchase food and drink if they choose, and there will be many different activities for them to be involved in including a movie and outdoor dance. Due to the water restrictions, we will be unable to have the water fight this year on this day. We ask that students do not bring water guns, water balloons and silly string to school as this makes a giant mess of our school field and ask that students respect the water ban and not throw their water bottles on each other and then require more water when they get thirsty from being outside.
Athletics:
Any parents of athletes from our teams this year can you please ensure that you have paid your fees on PowerSchool, especially track and field as it was just added to PowerSchool in June.
Track and Field:
Our athletes competed in the track meet last Tuesday going against 7 other schools from around the city. The weather turned out amazing and all our athletes represented Peter Lougheed so well with a handful of top 10 finishes for our athletes. Congratulations to all our athletes that competed.
Diversity Cup Soccer:
Our Diversity Cup soccer teams played in their tournament last weekend and did amazing in all their games. They showed great sportsmanship and lots of great soccer skills in the tournament. Congratulations to all our athletes that gave up their weekends for this tournament and thank you to all the parents who came to cheer on their athletes at the event.

Physical Education
A reminder for all our students to wear appropriate clothing for Physical Education class and appropriate footwear. We have a lot of students coming to school wearing crocs footwear and flip flops which are not suitable shoes to be participating in sports and there is potential for one of these students to sprain or break their ankles as they offer no support and very little grip. If students are wearing these shoes to school, please have them bring an additional pair of running shoes to change into at school.
Next Year Changes
Next school year there are a few changes we want to make families aware of.
1. Grade 5/6 students transitioning to an Explore wheel. These students will no longer have the same Explore choices as the grade 7/8/9 students but will instead get a taste of all the Explore options as a homeroom class.
2. Semesters instead of Terms. We are moving to half the school year semesters for our Explore options. This will mean that students will have two Explore options at a time for half the school year. On Mondays and Wednesdays they will have one of their Explore classes and on Tuesdays and Thursdays they will have the other Explore class.
3. Full year band. If you child takes Band, this class will operate all year long. This will mean they will only have 3 Explore classes instead of 4. This year long band program mirrors other middle/Jr. High programs and will facilitate a stronger Band program at PLS.
4. Lunch and Bell time change. PLS is moving towards a shared lunch hour for all of our students. Currently our grade 5/6 students have lunch from 12:09 to 12:59 and our grade 7/8/9 students have lunch from 1:04 to 1:54. Next year we will have all students on lunch from 12:05 to 12:45. Our grade 5/6 students will be outside on the field and park for the first half of lunch, while the grade 7/8/9 students are eating inside. At 12:25 our grade 5/6 students will come inside to eat their lunch and grade 7/8/9 students will transition out of the gathering space. This new change will facilitate better supervision for our students and allow for more community building activities to happen during the lunch hour.
