Feb 28th - Pink Shirt Day
Athletics
Our girls volleyball teams played on Tuesday this week at Ted Harrison school. Our junior girls were able to split the two sets and our senior girls had two tough matches that ended closely but both in losses. Our teams will continue their season next week with a home game for the girls on Tuesday. Come on out and cheer them on.

Physical Education
A reminder for parents to please pay for the ski and snowboard field trip on PowerSchool if your child attended.
A reminder that we will be running outdoor modules all winter long and students in these modules need to come to class prepared with sweaters, warm pants, winter jackets, mittens/gloves, hats or hoods, warm socks and snow pants and boots are beneficial but are not mandatory. Lots of students are coming to school unprepared and are having trouble participating in their modules because of this.
Technology and Social Media
Don’t wait for things to go wrong before engaging your child in a conversation about appropriate online behaviour; instead, have ongoing conversations about what your child does online starting at an early age. Your kids should be in the habit of talking to you about their everyday online lives, just like they tell you about their day at school. Remind your children to come to you right away if they feel uncomfortable or threatened online.
Set rules, standards and boundaries: Establish clear rules about the values you expect your children to live by online, similar to the values you expect in their physical world. Technology can give people the sense of anonymity, sometimes making it easier for youth to cyberbully (intentionally or unintentionally) because they cannot see the hurt through the screen. It may seem hard to believe, but even teens are less likely to engage in cyberbullying if there is a household rule against it!
Parents / Guardians
Webinar Series
The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join us in an online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions are hosted in partnership with experts from Alberta Health Services and will explore topics such as vaping, brain development, mental health, and sexual health. Click here to learn more: Child and Youth Well-Being: A Webinar Series for Parents and Guardians
CBE educators believe that parents and guardians can inspire their kids to make healthy lifestyle choices and increase protective factors – in order to do so, they need the right tools and information. Well-being is a precondition for learning. As our understanding of student well-being continues to evolve, it is important for those that support children and youth to stay up to date on the same information so everyone can support student success. The intention of the series is to advance student well-being by raising family and caregiver’s understanding of a variety of health-related topics. Thank you for your time and consideration to join us.

Parking
The school continues to receive calls from the community about the parking and the general pick up and drop off by parents. This includes, but not limited to: ·
- Parking too close to corners and creating blind spots.
- Obstructing garages – even if it is only for a few minutes.
- Parking in the bus zone
- Concerns over students not crossing at the crosswalk.
- Students crossing in between vehicles.
- Stopping in the middle of the road instead of pulling over to the side to pick up and drop off students.
- All parking infractions are being directed to the City of Calgary Bylaw department.
