December 9-13, 2024

You’re Invited to the Peter Lougheed School Winter Concert!

We are excited to invite you to our school's Winter Concert on December 12th at 6:30 PM in the main gym. This magical evening will feature performances by our talented Grade 7 Band and the Grade 8/9 Combined Band. It’s a wonderful opportunity to come together, enjoy beautiful music, and support our young musicians.

At the concert we will be selling hot chocolate and cookies for $1 and $2. All the proceeds from these sales will supplement the cost of field trips for band students.

Mark your calendars and bring your family and friends. We look forward to seeing you there!

Grade 8/9 Band

After school rehearsals for the Winter Concert will be held on Wednesday December 4th and Wednesday December 11th from 3:45-4:30. Attendance will be taken!

Peter Lougheed Robotics Team

We had so much fun at our Robotics tournament at North Trail High School last Friday! The programmers met with our mentor, and finished our drive code and started our autonomous. Autonomous is the 30-second period in the tournament, where we pre-program our robot to follow a series of code to make it do what we want, and earn points. The builders got our push bot attached to the robot, and after adding the drive code, the robot was moving! We also got lots of inspiration from the other teams for our arm, and ways we could improve our robot. Overall, the tournament was a great success, and our team really enjoyed it. We have our next tournament on Jan 11, at Pearson and the last one on Feb 3, at Nelson Mandela. We’d love for people to come and show support for our team!

Traffic and Bus Safety

When dropping your children off in the morning, please be mindful of pedestrian safety.  We have had complaints of students running out in front of moving cars to cross the street to the school or to meet their family at the end of the day.     Best practices include using the crosswalks at all times and looking both ways to ensure cars have stopped.

Please do not park in the bus zone from 8:45am-9:25am or from 3:25pm-4:00pm.  We now have six busses daily at PLS and they require this space to drop off and pick up students safely.

Cold Weather Safety

Peter Lougheed school doors open at 9am.  If you are dropping your child(ren) off early, please ensure they are dressed appropriately for the weather.   Bus service can also be impacted by the weather and students need to be prepared for cold temperatures as well.

Social Media safety

We are asking all parents and guardians of Peter Lougheed Students to please check in with your children about their social media use. Many instances of bullying and conflicts happen online and specifically through the app SnapChat. There are some resources available through SnapChat called the Family Centre, where parents can monitor their children's use of the app. Please follow the link below to learn more.

Athletics

Our senior boys basketball team played this week in the city championships.  They won their first game on Wednesday versus Valley Creek, then last night played Branton in an absolutely nail biter and prevailed to win by 1 point in a back and forth affair.  Our senior boys will be playing in the final tonight at Crescent Heights High School versus Bishop Pinkham so good luck as they try to become city champs.

Volleyball tryouts will start up after winter break so any students that intend to tryout will need to sign up on the bulletin board and ensure they have their purple athletic tryout forms into the office.

Athletic Schedule

Please ensure that if your child is planning to try out for an athletic team that they have turned in their athletic tryout purple form to the phys ed office.  If students still need this form, they can pick one up from the pe office in the gym.
