Halloween, Diwali, and Culture Day
Thank you to everyone who worked together to make our Halloween activities and Diwali celebrations a success. It was wonderful to see many students and staff enjoying some opportunities to learn about each other.
Landscaping Update
We are grateful for the continued support of our staff, students and community as our landscaping upgrades are ongoing. Please remind your children not to walk on any of the new grass that has been installed, as it will need several years to get established before it can take foot traffic. The stairs and landings have now been poured and have cured, so that our bus doors will be accessible next week!
Remembrance Day Assemblies
Peter Lougheed School will be observing Remembrance Day on Thursday, November 7th. We will be having three assemblies. The assembly times and the attending classes are listed below:
9:30-10:05: -1, -2, 5-7
10:15-10:50: -3, -4, 6-7
11:00-11:35: -5, -6, 7-7
We would like to invite interested families to join us at the school for our Remembrance Day Service. During our service we will be honoring veterans with a photo slideshow. We would like to invite all families to send a photo (or photos) of friends and family members who have served in any military or associated service organizations, in service of making our world a better place. Please send all photos to jlgarbutt@cbe.ab.ca
With the photo, please include the name of the person, their rank and the name of the student(s) who attends Peter Lougheed School.
The school will have some poppies to hand out to students. Cash donations are welcome. All cash donations will be sent to the Veterans Food Bank.
Friday, November 8, 2024 – Non-Instructional Day
This Friday, CBE staff and service units will be engaged in system-based professional learning from our Indigenous Education Team. This day has been gifted the name Maatoomsii'Pookaiks by Piikani Elder Leonard Bastien in 2022. Maatoomsii’Pookaiks means putting children first. PLS staff will be engaging in learning together at the school for this day.

Athletics
Our junior girls started the week off playing really well as a team in two home games. Our junior boys came up short in two tough losses this week. Finally, our senior girls basketball team lost a super close one on Wednesday.
Just a reminder of parents of both our soccer teams and basketball teams that we need you to pay your team fees as we need to pay our referees for the season and pay for the tournaments we were in. If you are having trouble paying your fees on Powerschool please contact the office and they can help you out.
Athletic Schedule
Please ensure that if your child is planning to try out for an athletic team that they have turned in their athletic tryout purple form to the phys ed office. If students still need this form, they can pick one up from the pe office in the gym.

Physical Education
Just a reminder to all parents to ensure students are coming with proper clothing so they can participate in Physical Education class. The weather is getting colder in the mornings so we need to have students come prepared to be outside. Also, any students wearing crocs or sandals/flip flops will not be allowed to participate in the activities as there are major safety concerns with these types of footwear.
