Traffic and Bus Safety

When dropping your children off in the morning, please be mindful of pedestrian safety.  We have had complaints of students running out in front of moving cars to cross the street to the school or to meet their family at the end of the day.     Best practices include using the crosswalks at all times and looking both ways to ensure cars have stopped.

Please do not park in the bus zone from 8:45am-9:25am or from 3:25pm-4:00pm.  We now have six busses daily at PLS and they require this space to drop off and pick up students safely.

Cold Weather Safety

Peter Lougheed school doors open at 9am.  If you are dropping your child(ren) off early, please ensure they are dressed appropriately for the weather.   Bus service can also be impacted by the weather and students need to be prepared for cold temperatures as well.

Social Media safety

We are asking all parents and guardians of Peter Lougheed Students to please check in with your children about their social media use. Many instances of bullying and conflicts happen online and specifically through the app SnapChat. There are some resources available through SnapChat called the Family Centre, where parents can monitor their children's use of the app. Please follow the link below to learn more.

Athletics

Our senior boys basketball team played in the finals on Monday night at Nelson Mandela high school and played amazing winning by 20 points to take home our division championship over Crossing Park.  We are so proud of how hard the boys played all season to remain undefeated.  The boys will play in the city championship starting on Wednesday playing against the other division champions from around the city.

Athletic Schedule

Please ensure that if your child is planning to try out for an athletic team that they have turned in their athletic tryout purple form to the phys ed office.  If students still need this form, they can pick one up from the pe office in the gym.

Physical Education

This week in Physical Education class our students finished their fitness testing seeing how they measured up against their peers in tests that measured speed, agility, power, strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance and flexibility.  Starting on Monday students will be back in their modules with –1 & -2 classes in health and table tennis, -3 & -4 classes in broomball (please dress for the weather as this is an outdoor module) and mat games (includes gymnastics and wrestling games), and –5 & -6 in volleyball and foundations of fitness. These modules will go right to winter break for the next three weeks.

Just a reminder to all parents to ensure students are coming with proper clothing so they can participate in Physical Education class.  The weather is getting colder in the mornings so we need to have students come prepared to be outside.  Also, any students wearing crocs or sandals/flip flops will not be allowed to participate in the activities as there are major safety concerns with these types of footwear.
